Substack Saturday

Big day for The Story Cellar and for summer! This is the first Saturday this year where I have been able to have the door open and the lights off! The temperature took a dramatic upswing yesterday (good for all those people sitting in parks listening to political speeches – would have been even better had we still had our Store Bededag Bank Holiday) and it’s time to open the doors and windows and let the warm air in. Yesterday a new ice cream parlour also opened in town, I had the mint chocolate chip and the espresso honey, and I highly recommend them both. Can’t wait to sit in the sun and try all the other flavours.

Last night (post ice-cream) I sat in front of my laptop, a cup of tea and the last of my “hveder” by my side, and wrote The Story Cellar’s first Substack post. The blog will still be here every other Saturday for new titles, any changing opening hours, what’s been sold etc., but I want to write a lot more behind-the-scenes posts and apparently Substack is currently the place to be for that. So as I sit here today, I can plan some future posts. And you can subscribe to it if you want to follow in the evolution of The Story Cellar and how I can balance it with my increasing frustrations about my “real” job.

New on the shelves this week: The Paris Express by Emma Donoghue. Historical fiction set during the railway boom – a young woman with a plan gets on the train to Paris and a desperate countdown begins.

CHANGED OPENING HOURS FOR MAY: The Story Cellar WILL NOT be open the third Saturday in May (16th of May) but WILL be OPEN on Friday 15th of May.
