It’s been a few months since I posted that The Story Cellar now had five hundred titles on its shelves. I haven’t quite doubled it yet, but we have rounded the eight hundred mark! And I think that’s worth celebrating.
I started The Story Cellar six months ago with just under two hundred titles. And six months later I have got six hundred more. There were three bookshelves when I began. Now there are eight. Plus the two smaller ones I had to bring down from my office. Plus the little trolley filled with assorted smaller categories and a big basket that used to hold firewood that now is filled with books that are not in the best condition, but still deserve a good home.
I’m also going to make a point of reading at least one book a month from The Story Cellar shelves this year, starting with Thoreau’s Walden. It’s one of those books I’ve always meant to read, and right now I find the idea of running off to a cabin for two years very appealing.
I also find the idea of opening The Story Cellar full time very appealing, but so far that remains a dream.
Speaking of dreams, I got a message the other night that seemed like a bit of a dream: I didn’t know you existed. Summer road trip for me!
Maybe this is the moment when I nail my colours to the mast and say out loud that what I want is for The Story Cellar to become the number one English bookshop in Denmark. Not that there’s a lot of competition, but if I can make it special enough for people to travel to it, then more people will discover our beautiful island.
And more people will read. Wouldn’t that be a beautiful thing in this world?
I’m not sure where I’ll find room for the next two hundred books, but I’ll find room somewhere.
I will.
I promise.
