I’m not entirely sure when I came up with the idea for The Story Cellar, but I think it was in May 2024, when I was feeling pretty burned out. More than anything else, I wanted to do something that did not involve me sitting in front of a screen. If there’s one thing I’ve always loved more than anything, it’s books. Reading books. Buying books. Writing books. My mother says that if waterproof paper were a thing, I would read in the shower. She’s not wrong.
That was also the time I started looking for a new place to live. More and more, the idea of having somewhere in my new home that I could use as a bookshop began to take hold.
Eventually a good friend got so tired of listening to me talk about the bookshop but not acting on it that he wrote me a business plan. That was a good shove in the right direction.

I’ve never been a fan of getting rid of books, which now stands me in good stead, because I have enough stock to start a shop.
Even though I am a Danish/English/Irish mix, I’ve always preferred reading English books. Every time I travel, I come back with more books. Foyles and Hatchards in London are two of my happy places, along with Waterstones in Amsterdam.
I also studied English Literature at university, and a lot of the books on the shelves (especially the ones that are banned in certain places) are from those days.
Ideally there will be more than just books in the Story Cellar. There will be book-related events, some cake and maybe the of glass of wine.
So if you also like reading English books and are looking for a new second-hand bookshop, come down to our beautiful island, Langeland (where Oehlenschläger wrote the Danish national anthem), pick up some books and see what else we have to offer.
